Plektra is bringing their fusion of Classical and World Music to the Blue Mountains. The ensemble of mandolinists and guitarists will be performing classics including the Vivaldi Mandolin Concert and tango music by Piazolla, as well as World Music with an Eastern European flavour and some surprises to delight the audience.

Radio listeners may have already heard Plektra’s CD on ABC Classic FM. This CD is enjoying critical acclaim internationally.

The group is led by Kiev-trained, internationally renowned mandolin soloist Dr. Stephen Lalor who performs and tours with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Australia Opera and Ballet Orchestra as well a number of overseas orchestras. Lalor also arranges or writes much of Plektra’s music.

Plektra has toured Germany in 2010 and 2014 where they were invited to perform at Europe’s leading festival for mandolin and guitar music, BDZ. Similarly, they toured the USA in 2012 to perform at the Classical Mandolin Society of America’s festival in Minneapolis.

Plektra includes musicians from Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Putty. For this concert they are very pleased to introduce new Danish mandolin talent, Oliver Rathje.
